DR. RICHARD ZWEIFLER, director of the USA Stroke
Center, has received a
$251,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to study whether
multivitamins with folic acid, B6 and B12 reduce the risk of recurrent stroke.
The University of South Alabama is one of 36
centers across the
country involved in the Vitamin Intervention for Stroke Prevention
study.
DR. OSCAR D. ALMEIDA JR. held two presentations
at the 42nd Annual
Clinical Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists, May 9-13 in New Orleans.
Almeida's two round-table luncheon conferences
were titled Office
Laparoscopy'' and Operative Microlaparoscopy Under Local Anesthesia:
Ushering in Minimally Invasive Surgery for the Millennium.''
Microlaparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical
technique
used in the diagnosis and treatment of women with chronic pelvic
pain and endometriosis.
Almeida is a local obstetrician-gynecologist
and a clinical associate
professor at the USA College of Medicine.
