College Briefs:  College of Medicine at USA rewarded

   The University of South Alabama College of Medicine recently
was presented the Silver Achievement Award of the seventh annual
Family Practice Percentage Awards'' by the American Academy
of Family Physicians for its efforts to make family practice a top
career choice for graduating seniors.

   USA was one of 46 medical colleges nationwide recognized for
having the highest three-year average of graduates entering a
family practice residency training program for 1995 through 1997.
During that period at USA, 28.6 percent of graduates entered a family
practice program.

   The award was accepted by Dr. Perry Dickinson, professor of
family practice and director of educational programs for the Department
of Family Practice and Community Medicine. It was presented during
the conference of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in
Chicago.
