56 USA medical students learn their residency sites:
‘Match Day' envelopes opened in Mobile at same time as other medical interns around nation
By Staff Reporter, Mobile Register, Mar. 19, 1998.

With the tear of an envelope, seniors at the University of South
Alabama's College of Medicine found out Wednesday where they will
spend the next part of their medical training.

At the annual Match Day'' event at the Brookley Conference
Center, 56 senior medical students learned where they had been
accepted to residency programs. They opened their letters at approximately
11 a.m.  the same moment medical students across the country read
the news.

After a June 14 graduation, USA students will go on to a residency,
