Evaluating Web Pages
Seven criteria to use when evaluating a web site:
AVOCADO
ACCURACY Is author or sponsoring organization a recognized authority in the field?
Can the information given on the site be verified in other sources?
Is the site free of errors?
VALUE Is the site appropriate for your needs?
Does the site contain new or unique information?
ORGANIZATION Is the site easy to navigate?
Is the site easy to read and visually appealing?
Is there a search engine available to search the site's contents?
Is the site user friendly?
COVERAGE Does the site consist of part or an entirety of a work?
Is the site still under construction?
What topics are included?
Which topics are explored in depth?
AUTHORITY What are the credentials of the site's author or source?
Is the site on an .edu (education) or .gov (government) sponsored server?
Was the site referred to or linked from a reliable source?
Is contact information for the site's author(s) available?
DATE How current is the information?
Is the date of the last site update listed on the page?
OBJECTIVITY Is an overt bias evident?
Is it clear who is responsible for the material on the site? (Is it a .com, .gov or .edu sponsored site?)
What is the puropose of the page?
