Circulation Desk: Guide for the Disabled - Campus Site

WELCOME: The faculty and staff of the Biomedical Library are committed to providing access to its materials and services for disabled users. This guide outlines the services available.

PARKING AND ENTRANCE: Handicapped parking spaces are located by the Alpha East building. There is a sidewalk and ramp leading to the entrance of the Biomedical Library.

ELEVATOR: All three floors are accessible by the elevator. Elevator control panel is at wheelchair level and has braille indicators.

SOUTHcat ACCESS: There are SOUTHcat terminals that are accessible to persons in wheelchairs.

IN-LIBRARY REQUESTS FOR RETRIEVAL: The Circulation Desk will accept requests to have library materials retrieved from the shelf for in-library use or check-out.

TELEPHONE REQUESTS FOR RETRIEVAL: Disabled users may request that a specific item be retrieved from the shelves by phoning the Circulation Desk. Available items will be held for user pickup.

RESERVES: Reserve materials are shelved behind the Circulation Desk in the lobby. Present your library card when you request reserve materials.

REFERENCE DESK: Information Services Librarians are available to provide assistance in locating information. Users are encouraged to make arrangements in advance to schedule appointments.

PROXY BORROWER AUTHORIZATION: Disabled users may submit a letter to the Circulation Desk listing the name(s) of those individuals who have permission to act as proxy in borrowing library materials.

PHOTOCOPY MACHINES: Library photocopiers are self-service and operate using a copicard or cash. Disabled users who experience difficulty in making copies may request Circulation staff to make copies for them.

COURTESY TELEPHONE: Phone is located in the lobby and is at wheelchair level.

REST ROOMS: All floors have accessible rest rooms.

DRINKING FOUNTAINS: All floors have accessible water fountains.

EMERGENCIES: If the fire alarm sounds, do not use the elevator. Library staff will come to you, wait by the stairs.

This guide will soon be available in the following formats: braille, large print and audio tape. Please ask at the Circulation Desk.
