WHAT'S THE BUG?

CASE # 1 (01/09/98)

Group A Streptococcal osteomyelitis of the right tibia.

The two blood cultures obtained in this patient upon admission yielded group A beta-hemolytic Streptococcus. His bone scan was consistent with osteomyelitis of the right tibia. Incision and drainage was performed, the cultures obtained during the procedure yielded the same organism. The patient improved after receiving treatment with clindamycin and penicillin for six weeks .
