International Efforts

Dr. Wladimir Wertelecki, chair and professor of the Department of Medical Genetics, led a panel of local and national experts on a trip to the Ukraine in April.  The group promoted birth defects surveillance and prevention in the country.

Ukraine's Minister of Health and the Mohyla University in Kiev hosted the group delegations.  In addition, the United States Agency of International Development is considering a proposal from Mobile doctors to establish a birth defects prevention program in Ukraine.

Dr. Richard L. Wesenberg, professor of radiology and pediatrics, was a visiting professor and consultant pediatric radiologist at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The hospital specializes in pediatric cardiac surgery and pediatric oncology and hematology.  Wesenberg worked with a group of 20 radiologists from around the world and presented a series of lectures and conferences on pediatric imaging to the radiology and pediatric departments.
