Training Program for Faculty and Personnel Using Animals
in Research
Instructional Process
General
All personnel (including faculty, technicians, students, visiting scientists,
postdoctoral fellows, administrative staff, and consultants) who will be
working with animals are required to participate in the training program
unless exempted by the Director of University Biological Resources.
This participation includes a online core training module, video training
tapes, lectures, wet labs and other formats as deemed appropriate.
Personnel are required to begin participation within 6 months of being
hired.
Newly hired principal investigator's must provide a copy of the "Documentation
of Training for Personnel Performing Animal Procedures" form when submitting
an Animal Use Protocol form for review by the IACUC. This form
is required for the investigator and for each individual who will be using
animals in the protocol and should be forwarded to Ms. Donna Skipper, Office
of Insitutitonal Animal Care and Use, CSAB 134.
Biomedical Library
The Biomedical Library maintains all audiovisual materials and equipment's
associated with the IACUC-sponsored training program.
The Biomedical Library personnel will provide participants with a copy
of the "Training Documentation" form when materials are checked out. This
form is to be completed by the participant when the training session has
ended.
The Training Documentation form is to be retained by the participant and
submitted to the IACUC as proof of training.

Protocol Review
The investigator is required to affirm on the "Protocol for the Use of
Laboratory Animals" that training has been completed or is up-to-date for
all named personnel.
Proof of training is to be submitted for all personnel listed on the protocol
as 'Authorized Assistants'.
