Who can use the COM lab? The Microcomputer Lab belongs to the College of Medicine and is for the use of PhD and M.D. students, housestaff, and faculty working on classroom instruction. There are 14 computers available for use. What is the Multimedia Lab? Who can use it? The Multimedia Lab contains a TV/VCR, and five computers dedicated to multimedia CD-ROM's, and are open to all faculty, staff, and students for use. Where is the COM lab? The COM lab is located in the Biomedical Library on campus in room 222. How
do I log on to a computer?
Your
user name is your first initial, middle initial, last name, and the last
three digits of your student number (faculty would use the last three
digits of their Social Security number). The password is your student
number. Do not capitalize anything. When can the lab be used? The lab can be used any time the library is open unless a class is scheduled in the lab. Click here to see the library's hours. When the lab is reserved for a class, notice will be posted on the lab door and on this web site at least 24 hours in advance. Is
eating or drinking allowed in the lab? No. Although
the biomedical library has adopted a limited food/drink policy for the
rest of the library, the computer lab is off limits for both food and
drink. Can I load my own software in the lab? No, unless it has been cleared with the lab manager. We want to avoid viruses and incompatible software. What are the charges for printing? Printing from the laser printer in the lab costs $0.05. Printing to other black and white printers in the library costs $0.10 per page. Color printing costs $0.50 per page. Your account is automatically billed. How can I save my work? Students may save documents to diskette or to the I drive (Data on 'southmed_bml' (l:), folder worktemp). All of the computers are equipped with burnable CD-ROM drives and have USB slots for travel drives. How
do I access the Integrated Medical Curriculum?
On the Biomedical
Library homepage, click on Databases/Resources.
On
the Electronic Databases and Resources page, click on Integrated
Medical Curriculum. Select a course of study. The Integrated Medical
Curriculum can be accessed from home by proxy.
