Full Professor of Library Science and Director, Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences, University of Alabama, Birmingham, at retirement. From 1955, she had been Librarian; from 1949-55, Associate Librarian.
Other library positions: U.S. Army Air Force Tactical School and Combat Intelligence Four?Engine School, both at Maxwell Field, Alabama.
She served on Board of Directors, Medical Library Association and was President, Alabama Library Association.

From 1955-1961, she had been Librarian, at University of Miami School of Medicine. From 1961-1962 she was Chief of the Reference Services Division of the National Library of Maryland, Bethesda, Maryland. From 1944-1955, she was Librarian, University of Alabama Medical Center Library, Birmingham, Alabama.
Editor of Bulletin of the Medical Library Association, 1957-1961.
Author of chapter, "Public Relations," in Handbook of Medical Library Practice, 2d edition, 1956.

Mildred M. Jordan

President, Medical Library Association, 1959-60.
Recipient of Marcia C. Noyes Award, 1963.
Librarian, A.W. Calhoun Medical Library, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, 1933-1965. She taught a MLA Approved course in medical librarianship, 1951-1965. In 1961, she was awarded a 5-year grant by the U.S. Public Health Service to establish and conduct an internship program for medical librarians.
Author of Chapter 4, "Administration," in Handbook of Medical Library Practice, 2d edition, 1956. She was also a recognized authority on the medical history of Georgia and the Confederacy.

Librarian and Professor of Medical Bibliography at Rudolph Matas Medical Library, Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1959-1974. Historian of Medical Center until 1979.
Librarian of School of Medicine, Louisiana State University, 1938-1959.
Editor of Bulletin of the Medical Association, 1945-1949. Author of Chapter 3, "The Medical Librarian," in Handbook of Medical Library Practices, 2d edition, 1956.
Some of his best known publications: "Applied Medical Bibliography for Students," 1955,and "The Health of Slaves on Southern Plantations," 1951.
 


 
Eileen R. Cunningham

President, Medical Library Association, 1947-1948.
Recipient of Marcia C. Noyes Award, 1949, the first time it was awarded.
Librarian, Vanderbilt School of Medicine, 1929-1949. Professor of Medical Library Science, 1949-1956. Librarian Emeritus, 1956.
Author of "Classification for Medical Literature," first published in 1929 and revised through five editions.
Other publications: Chapter 8, "Reference Work Including an Annotated List of Reference Books," in Handbook of Medical Library Practices, 1st edition, 1943. "A Bibliography of Reference Works and Histories in Medicine and the Applied Sciences," in collaboration with Gertrude L. Annan and Mary Grinnell, in the 2nd edition of the Handbook.
She was active in UNESCO and World Health Organization, and other organizations promoting the work of libraries and their cooperation.

Mary Louise Marshall

President, Medical Library Association, 1941-46.
Recipient of Marcia C. Noyes Award, 1953.
She was the second woman to be elected President of the Medical Library Association and she remained in office for almost 6 years because conditions in the war years limited travel and meetings.
Librarian, Tulane University Medical School, New Orleans, 1928-1959.
Publications: Chapter on Classification in Handbook of Medical Library Practice, 1st edition, 1943. Co-editor of the 2d edition of the Handbook. Author of more than 100 articles on medical librarianship and medical history. Author of: "The Physicians' Own Library, Its Development, Care and Use," 1956.
 


 
M. Irene Jones

Librarian, Mooney Memorial Library, University of Tennessee Medical Units, Memphis, Tennessee, 1959-1970. Previously, she had been Associate Librarian, 1949-1959. At retirement in 1970, she became Librarian Emeritus.
In 1945?47, she was Assistant to Chief, Cataloging Department, U. S. Army Medical Library. She served on MLA Board of Directors, 1960?1963.
The Program of the 29th annual meeting of Southern Regional Group, held in Memphis, Tennessee on October 11-13, 1979, was presented in honor of her.

Mayo Drake

Chairman, Southern Regional Medical Library Association, 1963.
Library Director and Professor of Department of Medical Library Sciences at Louisiana State University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Shreveport, 1968-1986. Before that position he was head of Acquisitions in the J. Hillis Miller Health Center Library, University of Florida in Gainesville. He helped to design the new library facility at Louisiana State University which became a prototype and he became a consultant for several new medical schools.
He was editor of the 3rd edition of "Checklist of Periodicals Titles Currently received by Medical Libraries in the Southeast Region." He served on the Nominating, Membership, Scholarship and other committees of the Medical Library Association.

Warren Allen (Buz) Sawyer

Professor and Director of Libraries and Learning Resources Centers at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, 1968-1989.
He received a grant for over $300,000 to develop statewide computerized biomedical information network.
He served on National Library of Medicine's Biomedical Library Review Committee from 1976-1980 and also on National Library of Medicine's Long Range Planning Task Force.
He served as first President of Consortium of Southern Biomedical Libraries (CONBLS).
